Four things that have earned their place in my kitchen this month.
None of them are complicated and none of them were expensive. Each one quietly fixed something that had been annoying me, which is usually the only reason a thing gets to stay on my counter.
The four
The Purdy & Figg counter clean set and the wooden spoons were gifted to me. The mixing bowl and the apple corer I bought myself. 1. Purdy & Figg counter clean set

The part that won me over is how it works. You get one amber glass spray bottle you keep forever, and small concentrate bottles you top up with water at the tap. One cleaner for the whole house instead of a row of half empty plastic bottles under the sink. It comes with three scents, balancing floral, grounding vetiver and uplifting citrus. Grounding vetiver is my favorite of the three and it is the one I keep refilling, so if you are only going to try one, start there.
One thing worth knowing before you order, because nobody likes finding this out later: it is a subscription. The starter plan is $19.95 and it ships every three months until you cancel. You can cancel any time and there is a 30 day money back guarantee, but it is not a one off purchase.
2. Glass mixing bowl with a lid
The lid is the whole reason I bought it. You mix in it and then store in the same bowl, so there is no decanting into something else and no plate balanced on top. It is 4.8 quarts, which is big enough for bread dough, and it goes in the microwave, the oven, the fridge and the dishwasher. Thick borosilicate glass, so it takes heat up to 450F without a problem.

3. Apple corer

Five dollars, and it is the tool I have reached for most this month. The rim is serrated the whole way around so it grips the skin right away. You press it into the middle of the apple and twist a few times until it goes all the way through, then pull it out and squeeze the handle, and the core pops straight out. You are not digging anything out with your fingers, which matters when you have a whole bowl of apples to get through.
Every seed comes out in one piece and leaves a clean circle in the middle, which is what makes slicing into rings easy. It works on pears and bell peppers too, and it is dishwasher safe.
4. Wooden spoon set

I have used these a lot more than I expected to. They are acacia, so they will not scratch a ceramic pan, and they do not get hot in your hand if you leave one resting in a pot. They are also the ones you can see in most of my recipe videos. What I did not plan on is that they never made it into a drawer. They live in the utensil holder on my counter now, so they earned their spot twice over, once for how they work and once for how they look sitting out.

If you only pick one, make it the apple corer. It is the cheapest thing on this list by a long way and it is the one I would actually miss.
